Lobbying activity
The following activities occurred for this specific Subject Matter Area.
Submission (1)
Adequate Income was a key issue in the INOU’s Pre-Budget 2023 Submission. The impact of the cost of living on unemployed people’s lives was discussed at our Annual Delegate Conference: amongst the calls to Government were “to ensure that social welfare payment increases at least match the cost-of-living increases and to introduce targeted anti-inflationary measures for those in receipt of social welfare payments.” The INOU sought an increase in Social Welfare payments of €20; payment of an earlier double bonus payment; and an increase in the Fuel Allowance of 50%. Another issue was securing an inclusive labour market. Self-employment is an important access point to the labour market, we sought an increase in the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance to three years with 50% of the participant’s social welfare payment. Activation programmes was the third issue and here we sought an increase the top-up payment on Community Employment and Tús of €7.50.
