Meeting at AbbVie site in Sligo (Manorhamilton road). It was site visit which includedtour of AbbVies facilities.
Subjects covered in site visit include:
The need to improve access speed to innovative medicines in Ireland, especially in areas with high unmet needs like Oncology. As commented, in 2021 Ireland ranked 24th in access to medicines in EU.
- Continued commitment by the State on a yearly basis to adequately fund new medicines, as key enabler for HSE to provide access for patients.
- Beyond the adequate funding, the State need to ensure that the existing processes used to assess and approve price and reimbursement of new medicines, is fast and efficient. The processes also need to be patient centric to secure quick access, especially when there is no alternative treatment available.
- Innovative medicines are strictly linked to the Intellectual Property and any loss of protection
