Specific Details A proposed amendment to the Offences Against the Person Act was studied by our barrister and we wished to share this legal opinion with the department of justice. We were initially concerned with the wording of the amendment and worried that it might not be specific enough to target the intended perpetrators designed by the act.

Intended results We wish for specific defences to be enacted into the act which have already been enacted or about to be enacted in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We wish also that our industry which is the only one licenced in these jurisdictions to be given greater recognition in law considering that we are in the service of the judicial system on a daily basis and assume great risk because of our work.

I and my colleague Aine O'Friel met with Deputy Carroll MacNeil to discuss our position in person. We had a twenty minute meeting in Leinster House on Tuesday 10th of May.
