Specific Details
A submission to Mr Paschal Donoghue TD, Minister for Finance and Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform detailing a range of measures COPE Galway are putting forward for inclusion in Budget 2019. COPE Galway consider these measures to be vital to addressing the plight of those the organisaiton works with on a day to day basis including people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, women and children who are expereicing domestic abuse and older people living in isolation.
Intended results
An increase in social housing supply through building to meet both current and future needs in response to the growth in homelessness
The introduction of measures address the slow pace of delivery of social housing including speeding up the processing of the Capital Assistance Scheme
Additional funding specifically for therapeutic interventions for children and young people affected by domestic violence
Provision to be put in place for an emergency payment to be available for women with children residing in domestic violence refuges who do not have access to social welfare payments
Provision to be made for an emergency accommodation expenses payment for families forced to reside in private emergency tourist accommodation due to homelessness based on the Qualified Child Increase payment rate
An increase to the state pension
An increase in the living alone allowance
An increase in the fuel allowance
Funding be provided to have an assigned and dedicated Community Welfare Officer role for those experiencing homelessness in Galway
