Intended results
To encourage the committee to invite representatives of the offshore wind energy sector to the Committee at its session on 'Meeting Ireland's Energy Targets under the 2020 Climate Action & Energy Package'
To highlight the potential for offshore wind to contribute towards Ireland's energy targets and the opportunity to capture the diversification benefits of the technology which has a typical load factor in excess of 40%, delivers consistent and predictable power, and delivers large renewable capacity with minimal grid reinforcement required.
To outline SSE's position that supporting offshore wind can minimise the risk of non-compliance fines from the EU and will deliver economic benefits to the Irish economy.
To set out that inclusion of a dedicated category in upcoming Renewable Electricity Support Scheme is the best way to encourage development of this technology.
