Specific Details OECD findings and government targets for adult literacy in Ireland

Intended results We asked for Sinn Féin's general support in holding the government to account on adult literacy in the new Dáil. We highlighted issues that they could raise, i.e. Targets in Adult Literacy for Life Strategy not being met Programme for Government not mentioning the strategy, or adult literacy/numeracy No opportunity for Dáil or committees to discuss OECD Survey of Adult Skills 2023 results (which came out on 10 December 2024) due to Dáil recess

Letter (1)

We sent our initial letter as attachment to email on 7 February 2025, to Deputy Donna McGettigan, with Deputy Mairéad Farrell in CC. Title of the letter: "OECD Findings and Government Targets for Adult Literacy in Ireland"

Email (2-5)

Deputy Donna McGettigan responded on 10 February 2025 to advise of a Parliamentary Question (PQ) she had submitted, about what actions the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Skills would take for adult literacy. She then emailed us on 25 February 2025 sharing the Minister's response. We responded on 28 February with thanks and suggested we could reconvene to discuss further. There was no further correspondence in this period.
