European Union General Budget 2024
Intended results
To support the vote at Plenary in Parliament on the General Budget of the European Union for the financial year 2024 and in particular the provisions on agriculture in the Budget.
To seek the support of Irish MEP's for this budget.
To highlight the following proposals in the EU 2024 Budget
• The need to increase the budget to help farmers cope with the challenges from the impact of inflation on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) subsidies and the need for new funds for new initiatives.
• The essential role agriculture is playing in achieving EU's objectives.
• That no budgetary cuts should be foreseen.
• The need for a clear monitoring of the administrative burden of the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and its impact on farmers.
• The need for Member States (MS) to provide more support to cooperatives, to develop incentives for setting up cooperatives.
• The importance of support for investment in innovation and the modernisation of agriculture.
• The role of data and indicators.
• The need to identify financial alternatives to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) agricultural reserve which has already been utilized.
• The need for support for young farmers and women in agriculture.
• The need for sufficient funding for research and innovation, including Horizon Europe and European Innovation Partnerships (EIP).
