To emphasise that the Residential Zoned Land Tax (RZLT) is from a farmer perspective nothing short of a landgrab exercise. It must be realised that farmed land isn't land speculation or land hoarding to constrain or prevent residential development for a huge pay-out down the line. It's a productive asset, used by farm families, often for generations, to earn a living.
- Most farmers never sought to have their lands zoned, but now, because the disproportionate nature of this tax, will be forced to sell up, thereby forcing a farm family out of their home and business.
To question the Minister for Housing, Local Government & Heritage, regarding An Taoiseach's commitment a few weeks ago that this anomaly will be corrected. When would impacted farm families be notified of this exemption, because there is a lot of fear, emotional and mental health stress surrounding this penal tax for impacted farm families.
To highlight concerns around the Planning & Development (Land Value Sharing & Urban Development Zones) Bill currently going through legislative scrutiny. IFA has made a submission outlining it's main concerns. A Lot of talk and focus has been around the 30% value sharing but a bigger concern IFA would have is around Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) of lands in Urban Development Zones.
To highlight that there is a huge need for a series of targeted interventions by Government to support farmers through inflationary input costs and falling output prices.
To highlight that the role of farmers in the Planning and Development Bill process needs to be better recognised and that it is imperative that the housing needs and challenges of rural area's are addressed.
To seek recognition from Government that the environmental efforts taking place on Irish farms to improve water quality and reduce on-farm emissions will take time to take effect.
