Seafood Taskforce
Intended results
The recently published Seafood Taskforce recommendation of a €60m fund and outline of a number of initiatives aimed at facilitating the sustainable development of Irish Aquaculture, while mitigating against the negative impacts of Brexit.
To establish if the Minister will ensure such initiatives can be realised under the current aquaculture licensing system which is in desperate need of reform.
The Maritime Area Planning Bill has recently passed through the Oireachtas without the inclusion of the two main marine industries, fisheries and aquaculture. This Bill also aims to establish a new regulatory body in the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA) which also will not include fisheries and aquaculture. Minister, will you ensure that aquaculture is included in the establishment of MARA as it is essential for the fair and correct development management of the Marine space?
To highlight that funding should be made available to provide the resources necessary to make a viable, sustainable Irish aquaculture sector a reality.
To highlight the priorities of the upcoming European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF).
