Specific Details Key issues for SIMI in Budget 2021 include taxation policy in relation to motor vehicles, particularly VRT, Road Tax and BIK. In this context SIMI would like to see a reduction in VRT with a particular focus on lower emitting cars and the extension of reliefs and grants for Electric Vehicles and PHEVs.

Intended results Reductions in VRT for new cars that would encourage consumers to trade up into a lower emitting newer car. Extension of grants and VRT reliefs for EVS and PHEVs. Increased State investment in an EV charging infrastructure.
