Specific Details Recycling phosphorus and nitrogen from separated human urine and toilet solids should be included in any amendments to the "Local Government Water Pollution Amendment Bill 2018". This is to prevent a future global food crisis because it is now know that the resources to make synthetic fertilizer that feeds more than half the world population will become excessively expensive and eventually be depleted. Instead of recycling phosphorus we also need to recycle nitrogen as a bio fertilizer.

Intended results To influence the Public representatives to amend the Bill so that the separation of human urine and the composting of toilet solids will be permitted. To avoid the problems of using city sewage sludge to agriculture, the goal is to treat the urine and the faces separately to produce a compost that contains no harmful ingested medicines or toxic metals. This home produced bio fertilizer compost will be suitable to grow vegetables in future in response to un-affordable supermarket food prices. At present single house septic tank treatment systems are wasteful of the finite nitrogen and phosphorus resources that we excrete. In addition municipal sewage treatment systems do not adequately remove pharmaceuticals or hormones from waste water. These products are now entering the aquatic environment and changing the hormones in male fish. Furthermore there is a rising problem of antibiotic resistance. We must prevent these entering waste water. Urine and farces separation can achieve this.

This is to secure a sustainable food supply by allowing rural homes to make their own recycled bio fertilizer
