Specific Details The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation provides in home respite care to children with severe to profound developmental delay and end of life care to all children under five years of age. Our nursing teams working in the community are seeing first-hand the impact that the imposition of the in loco parentis rule is having on those families and the high level of stress it is causing. Jack & Jill is calling for the removal of the clause from HSE homecare nursing packages for sick children

Intended results A motion to abolish in loco parentis’ was unanimously accepted in the Dáil on March 27th this year. Jack & Jill is calling on all politicians and policy makers to support this motion and to ensure the urgent removal of the clause from HSE homecare nursing packages for sick children.

Meeting (1)

A meeting was held in Leinster House on 11th July 2018. The purpose of the meeting was to follow up with Deputy O'Caolain and his political adviser Michael Doyle to ascertain developments in relation to the in loco parentis rule in home care packages for sick children. Both the Deputy and the charity discussed where the issue lay. Deputy O'Caolain also advised us that he was raising the issue in the Dail later that evening.
