Plant Health Regulation
Intended results
To highlight that plant disease outbreaks are increasing and farmers are growing increasingly concerned about the risks posed by the importation of plants, wood and wood products into Ireland.
To propose that, with the Plant Health Regulation scheduled for revision as part of the Commission work programme in 2024, it is vital that greater autonomy is given to Members States to protect plant health which should include the ability to introduce temporary prohibitions of high-risk plants, wood and/or wood products and/or to adopt the precautionary principle with regards to biosecurity.
