Request for your urgent support to protect gift card business in local economies
Dear MEP Sean Kelly,
As you’ll know County Tipperary Chamber is at the heart of local economies, many of our members operate a local voucher schemes which could be seriously undermined if the customer identification exemption is removed for low-value emoney products like these. These are a useful tool for keeping money in the local areas and also serves useful social goals such as limiting what younger people can buy with gifts.
As a Member of the European Parliament we are requesting your support on behalf of our members for amendment 479 that calls for the re-introduction of the €150 exemption for low-risk e-money.
Gift cards with a maximum storage amount of €150 shouldn’t need to have customer identification requirements. The end of such exemption would create significant “Know Your Customer” challenges for these gifts and would be completely disproportionate in light of the low risk they pose.
