Misean Cara (Misean Cara)
Lobbying activity
The following activities occurred for this specific Subject Matter Area.
Letter (2-5)
Given the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and climate, drought, and food crises, on top of prior global challenges, Misean Cara urges the Government to increase Ireland’s ODA budget in Budget 2023 by €233m to around €1.28 billion. This is not a matter of Ireland’s kindness, but a key strategic instrument in protecting stability, prosperity, shared interests and common future in a volatile global context, as reflected in ‘A Better World’.
Misean Cara also urges that the Government should act on the urging of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence when, in its Review of the Irish Aid Programme, it recommended back in 2018 that the Government "examine opportunities to increase funding to missionary bodies" in light of their enduring commitment to tackling poverty, inequality and injustice in the world.
