Cattle Rearing Finishing Scheme/CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027
Intended results
To secure a commitment from the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine that a national cattle rearing and finishing scheme will provide payments of €100/animal?
That the CAP strategic plans that you have submitted to Brussels will have a negative impact on the income of many suckler and beef farmers in this country. Targeted schemes in Pillar 2 provided a huge opportunity to offset this impact but you have decided not to support these farmers.
The Pillar 2 targeted payment for suckler cows must reflect the commitments you have given publicly that €150 will be paid on the first 10 cows and €120 for all remaining cows. This still leaves the levels of support for suckler cows well short of the required €300/cow.
The failure to provide targeted cattle rearing and finishing scheme in your plans have left beef farmers, those that are losing most in your new CAP, without any opportunity to of set the impact of the flattening of Pillar 1 payments.
Minister, your announced supports for suckler cows are €28m less than is currently available, will you commit to providing a national scheme starting in 2023 that will bring the targeted payment for sucklers to €300/cow.
To achieve a Review of Pillar 2 schemes in the Strategic plans to provide €300/suckler cow and €100 for cattle rearing and finishing
