Specific Details raise awareness of metastatic breast cancer which is an advanced form of breast cancer where early detection unfortunately does not improve survival. Even if diagnosed early, 30% of women diagnosed with early breast cancer will progress to metastatic disease. While there have been advances in breast cancer therapy, metastatic breast cancer currently remains incurable and many patients with metastatic breast cancer don't feel part of the the conversation around breast cancer.

Intended results raise political and public awareness of metastatic breast cancer where scientific progress has not kept pace with early breast cancer and where patients have distinct needs, require better services, and need to feel that their story is recognised in the public discourse about breast cancer.

Event / Reception All Oireachtas Members All Oireachtas members were invited to the launch (along with media, patient groups, medical organisations) of the Global Decade Report in the Royal College of Physicians on May 17th and were mailed a copy of the press release. A separate briefing was held in the Dail for all Oireachtas members on June 1st.
