Prof Des Cos, Chair of the RCPI Policy Group on Tobacco raised some ethical issues that have arisen at Irish universities around tobacco, including recent academic appointments of individuals with links to the tobacco industry, with the Minister for Higher Education, Simon Harris who has noted these concerns and is making further enquiries.

RCPI President, Prof Mary Horgan, wrote to Taoiseach, Michéal Martin and copied other Government Ministers to highlight the importance of focusing on addressing health inequalities in framing the next Budget and in wider health policy.

Dr Louise Kyne Dean of the RCPI Faculty of Paediatrics and Dr Ellen Crushell Clinical Lead for Paediatric care shared a report with all Oireachtas members on the impact of school closures on the health and wellbeing of children during the pandemic.
Dr Kyne and Dr Crushell also wrote to Minister Donnelly, Minister McEntee and Minister O'Gorman to raise the need to urgently address the national deficit in forensic medical services for children under 14 years of age.
