General briefing on Revolut in Ireland, including: having more than 1m retail customers; the provision of free day-to-day payment services; enhancing financial literacy among children via Revolut Junior; innovations including Open Banking and SEPA Instant transfers, benefiting consumers and business. Analysis of national and local consumer spending data, and its value to policy-makers. Setting out Revolut's aim to achieve authorisation by the CBI and act as a post-Brexit EU hub for the business.
Intended results
Agreement that Ireland should position itself as the Number 1 EU hub for FinTech post-Brexit, and that we continue to build a pro-consumer, pro-competition business, political and regulatory environment which is supportive, efficient and adaptable to change.
Appreciation of the value of Revolut's high-frequency consumer spending data to help inform policy-making locally and nationally as we seek to ensure the optimum possible adaptation to Covid-19 restrictions, and the strongest possible post-Covid recovery for consumers and business.
Understanding of the potential for the use of FinTech in delivering stimulus packages for business affected by Covid-19, and measuring their impact and effectiveness in real time; and the desirability of government making the maximum possible use of the location in Ireland of major tech and FinTech companies in our collective response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Awareness of the potential benefits of the adoption across government and the public service of FinTech and tech in delivering services for citizens in a 21st-century fashion, allowing Ireland to promote itself globally as a ‘Smart Island’ which leads the way in adoption of modern solutions for the benefit of the population.
