Project Carlow 2040 - A Vision for Regeneration; is a plan that has been recently completed and from that certain elements have been submitted for funding. This plan is a catalyst to attracting companies and people to Carlow, bringing the town and county to a new level and standard. The strategy will transform Carlow town into a regional powerhouse of sustainable economic growth offering enhanced business opportunities and quality of life
Intended results
The initial aspects of the plan seeking funding are vital to transforming Carlow and it is imperative that we see success in the applications to help spearhead the changes. Inc match funding the proposals are in the region of €21m funding request
Carlow has a range of businesses including many locally grown global businesses, these along with the FDI in the county offer a mix and we want to continue to build on that and ensure continued employment growth across the county
Highlight to the Minister the importance of Carlow 2040 to the stakeholders who have been involved in the formation of the vision. The strategy was developed over time in a collaborative approach with various stakeholders and the community, it is not just a vision of the Council rather of the businesses and people of the County.
Carlow already has a strong reputation in terms of Education, with two third level institutions. The current process with regard to creating a Technological University in conjunction with Waterford is moving along and we need to ensure that the town and county is on par in terms of offering to students and the needs of businesses.
The current funding application submitted by the Council needs to progress, for too long Carlow has been left behind in funding opportunities and we need to see this plan progress.
