Dear Minister Smyth,
Today, the 22nd of July, is the World Federation of Neurology ‘World Brain Day’ and this year the focus is on moving together to end Parkinsons Disease (PD). We need you to help alleviate the suffering of our members and their families living with PD in Ireland.
I am appealing for your help as thousands of patients with PD are currently being excluded from the health service as they do not have access to essential PD related health services.
PD is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder in the world. PD is a whole-body disease with people suffering from a debilitating range of motor symptoms such as:
• loss of muscle power; aggressive tremor; difficulties in swallowing, speech, walking & writing;
• slowness of movement; dystonia (uncontrolled muscle movement), pain and stiffness of the joints,
• Constipation; hearing dysfunction; olfactory (smell) dysfunction and urinary incontinence
and non
