Specific Details
Climate Action - Climate Ask on Agriculture by 2030
Intended results
In order for the Agriculture Sector to achieve the target of 10-15%:
- Teagasc must fully cost the most cost effective measure in their 2030 climate roadmap, which will deliver emissions reductions and cost savings
- a budget based on these costings, from non-CAP resources must be created by Government and ring-fenced for farmers to deliver these actions
- an implementation roup, which included IFA, relevant Government Departments and State Agencies should be established to drive the delivery of the key actions identified by Teagasc
- the carbon sink created by the sector through our pastures, hedgerows and forestry is fully recongised
- export-tariffs, grid connection streamlining and planning consents for farm-scale and community based renewables
When climate emisisons are being reported on, the latest Oxford university research must be used when the EPA are compiling the national greenhouse gas inventories to ensure the more accurate reporting of the cliamte impact of short-lived greenhouse gasses such as methane
