Members of the public were invited to email the Taoiseach and the Minister for Defence through an online petition in a successful campaign to get the Irish Navy redeployed to save lives in the Mediterranean. The LÉ Róisín was subsequently deployed on a life saving mission adding to Ireland's proud record in this area with over 8,000 lives saved in 2015.
