The following activities occurred for this specific Subject Matter Area.

To this end we proposed a structure that would ensure the SDGs were addressed in the coming term of office of the Local Council. We did this lobbying with the Irish Environmental Network as part of the Make Ireland Sustainable for All project. Our hoped-for outcomes were: -That the crucial role of the SPCs in delivering on the SDGs at local level be acknowledged and clearly referenced in the scheme’s guidelines. -That the SDGs are used as a foundational framework upon which all policy is formulated -When considering and proposing policy, that all SPCs identify how the proposed policy will impact on the relevant SDGs - That the economic development SPC should ensure that economic aspects of the Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) align with the model of sustainable development as outlined in the SDGs – ie, economic development which simultaneously protects the natural environment and the wellbeing of people.
