Future of the Beef Sector
Intended results
To address the proposal to revisit the Food Wise 2025 Strategy with a primary objective to implement policies which will deliver profitability at farm level
The need to address the low cattle prices, below the cost of production and for the Government to tackle the lack of price competition through the CCPC
To secure a fairer distribution fo the price return across the chain, open and develop new markets adn develop a Beef Price Index
Increased live exports which are essential for price competition and market outlets, rewarding quality with a strong price premium
Improve and increase controls on classification, trim and weights
The need for a comprehensive EU Brexit Emergency Support Package and an increase in the CAP budget to protect direct payments
To secure upwards only convergence on basic payments adn maintain the quality suckler herd with targeted payments of €200/cow and environmental scheme payments of €10,000 per farmer.
Stop imports from Mercosur (South America) which fail to meet EU standards.
