An ambitious national approach to the EED would tackle immediate concerns such as employment, expensive energy bills, energy security, and longer-term challenges such as climate protection and future-proofing Ireland’s energy infrastructure. The adoption of the Energy Efficiency Directive in 2012 and the roll-out of its cornerstone Article 7 have already spurred comprehensive strategies at the national level, that have encouraged the creation of local jobs across sectors - buildings, industry, transport and services.
An impressive movement of social and environmental NGOs, consumer associations, and local authorities, note that this potentials should be fully tapped into, and call for driving investments into energy efficiency.
