Specific Details The Sound and Vision scheme operated by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, as a publicly funded scheme funded through the TV licence fee, is not operated in accordance with the Disability Act and the access requirements therein. Specifically, no audio visual projects funded under this scheme to date has been broadcast with Irish Sign Language (ISL) presentation. This is despite the fact that the BAI claim to 'encourage' projects to include ISL presentation.

Intended results To get the BAI to deliver audio visual projects funded through the Sound and Vision Scheme to be broadcast with ISL presentation.

Meeting (1)

A meeting was sought with the Minister for Communications in early 2015 and took place on September 7th 2015. It was agreed at the meeting that DeafHear would seek further clarity from the BAI on the matter of delivering audio visual projects funded through the Sound and Vision Scheme with ISL presentation in future funding rounds.
