We are writing to request a meeting with you before the National Mitigation Plan is finalised. Our three umbrella groups have a diverse but overlapping membership. What our submissions to the recent public consultation have in common is our central concern with climate justice. The principle that recognises that the impacts of climate change fall unequally and unjustly: those who have done least to cause it are most affected and are most vulnerable. The imperative is that every country does its fair share to tackle the causes and consequences of climate change. It is significant that the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 established climate justice as one of the five pillars for the development of national mitigation and adaptation plans. We are surprised therefore by the complete absence of any mention of climate justice in the draft mitigation plan. We would like to meet with you to discuss how the absence of climate justice can be addressed before the plan is final
