Specific Details Meeting with DES re. Centre for School Leadership (CSL) - to clarify the vision for CSL and discuss some key issues in relation to the pilot and its role after the pilot

Intended results Discuss the vision for CSL as follows: Ensuring that the Mentoring and Coaching supports continue and are extended to other school leaders; Support in developing group mentoring for principals in the second year of their role; Support in developing a one-year group mentoring programme for newly-appointed deputy principals; Expansion of the post-graduate Diploma in School Leadership; Engagement in research to inform future direction; Other elements of the vision discussed were: the Incorporation of the leadership section of PDST into CSL; Refining the governance structures of CSL; Expansion of CSL Leadership Team; Decision on the future of CSL post the pilot; Brief discussion also on the serious work overload of Principals, particularly teaching principals; the impact of the ISM moratorium; and the need for open competition for Deputy Principal role Commitment to resource CSL beyond the pilot; clarify how CSL CPD programmes will be funded

Meeting (11-20)

held at DES Athlone on 17/05/2017. NAPD and CSL leadership attended as well as other DES personnel - Eddie Ward and Margarita Boyle. Over the past few years (since 2014), IPPN, NAPD and the DES have met many times to steer and manage the Centre for School Leadership as the three entities are joint partners in CSL.
