The meeting took place in Buswells. The agenda was as follows:
>Reduce the cost of asthma medication through the long term illness scheme or another targeted scheme such as a chronic disease card
>Improve Primary Care services for people with asthma by delivering
on the commitment to ‘National Clinical Programme for Asthma’ and to 80 new primary care centres to improve access to primary care.
>Ensure schools and other organisations are well equipped by replacing the current ministerial regulations for the administration of salbutamol in emergency situations with workable arrangements.
>To provide specialised Secondary Care services for children by
recruiting additional specialist asthma peadiatric nurses for each children's hospital and regional centre.
>Improve outdoor and indoor air quality as it has a profound effect
on the quality of life of the 470,000 asthmatics in Ireland.
>Reduce threat from tobacco by introducing measures to lower the availability and prevalence in Ireland.
