Specific Details Engagement with the Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection, Community Development and Rural Development and the Islands in relation to means testing within the Social Welfare system.

Intended results To outline the irregularities and impacts of this system on one-parent families in receipt of social protection payments and on child poverty levels. Provide recommendations to the Committee on how this system could be improved. To influence the Committee's recommendations to Government and the Minister for Social Protection.

Meeting (1)

Carly Bailey (then Policy Officer) and Karen Kiernan (CEO of One Family) attended the Committee and answered questions from Oireachtas Members and the Chair of the Committee who were present on the day.

The Chair of the Committee invited us to make a second submission providing more insight and examples in relation to irregularities and anomalies pertaining to means testing re payments related to one-parent families and provided a list of recommendations for the Committee to consider.
