IFA Manifesto for Local government Elections 2024 - Rural Planning and County Development Plans (CDP)
Intended results
To propose that each County Development Plan (CDP) acknowledges the importance of farming.
To propose the inclusion of a chapter in each County Development Plan (CDP) supporting the development of farm scale and community renewables.
To propose that there is recognition in County Development Plans (CDPs) of the need for rural housing for farmers and their family members who have an intrinsic link with the rural community.
To propose that each Community Development Plan (CDP) waivers development charges, where development is taking place due to EU or national regulations and/or involves investment that protects the environment.
To propose that Local Authorities are encouraged and supported to expand the number of farmers' markets, farm shops and community-owned markets in all towns, to showcase produce from local farmers, growers, and food producers.
To propose that the needs of rural areas are considered in the development of a new Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy which will seek to ensure that charging infrastructure stays ahead of demand.
