Misean Cara (Misean Cara)
Lobbying activity
The following activities occurred for this specific Subject Matter Area.
Letter (1)
Letter dated 16/08/21.
With specific regard to Budget 2022, Misean Cara urges Government to:
1. Deliver an increase in ODA in real terms to allow Ireland to keep pace with global needs now and in the post-COVID environment, and benchmarks by which to meet its ODA/GNI commitments, in support of the SDGs.
2. Ensure additional and targeted financing for climate change mitigation and adaptation to support Least-Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). This is critical to addressing the climate emergency, recognising the intricate relationship between the impacts of climate change - poverty and conflict.
3. Act on the recommendation of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence when, in its Review of the Irish Aid Programme, it recommended in 2018 that the Government "examine opportunities to increase funding to missionary bodies" in light of their enduring commitment to tackling poverty, inequality and injustice in the world.
