Specific Details
Nitrates Regulation
Intended results
Raise concerns regarding the timelines proposed to increase the nitrogen excretion rate from the dairy cow from 85kg N/ha to 89kg N/ha, prior to the formal review of the regulations next year.
This amendment, and especially the timing of its implementation, must be the subject of formal consultation, giving farmers an adequate lead-in-time to adjust their management practices.
A review of Ireland's Nitrates Action Programme is due in 2021. The review is typically an opportunity to engage with IFA and other stakeholders in a formal consultation process, through which key issues can be discussed and addressed.
Request meeting to discuss this very important issue prior to any implementation decision. We would ask that the necessary consultation takes place with IFA to address this issue as part of the overall Nitrates Regulations review next year.
