Specific Details The Wheel met with Kevin McCarthy, Secretary General of the Department of Rural and Community Development to brief the Department on the importance of ensuring that the forthcoming departmental strategy for social enterprise supports all community, voluntary and charitable organisations that make a contribution to the cost of their activity through "earning income", and that the strategy is coherent with the Department's forthcoming Strategy to Support the Community and Voluntary Sector

The development of a strategy to support social enterprise is a very welcome development, and it is important that that strategy supports all community, voluntary and charitable organisations and doesn't result in artificial distinctions being made which might disadvantage any community, voluntary and charitable organisations that earn income.
