Specific Details In the course of the recent Séanad and Dáil debates on the Data Protection Bill 2018, Aviva sought meetings with Fianna Fáil spokepeople in both Houses to brief them about how life insurance businesses use the health data of policyholders to provide life insurance cover and the steps Aviva takes to protect that data.

Intended results We wanted to ensure that leading opposition party Oireachtas members taking part in the debate on the Data protection Bill 2018, were fully informed about the importance of the provisions that allow life insurers to process the health data of customers seeking life insurance cover. We also wanted to reassure them about the steps we take to protect this data.

Meeting (2-5)

We met Senator Gerry Horkan during the Report Stage debate in the Séanad and we had separate meetings Deputies Jim O'Callaghan and James Lawless in advance of the Committee Stage debate in the Dáil. All three Fianna Fáil Oireachtas members were prominent contributors to the debate of the Data Protection legislation.
