Intended results There should be an offence of assault on a police officer in the course of their duty which can be prosecuted in the District Court. Section 19 allows the defendant elect for trail on indictment. Currently prosecutions are being taken under different sections of the public Order Act to allow for summary disposal but it does not accurately reflect the number of assaults on Gardaí Influence the decision of the Minister to not include additional powers for GSOC and the Garda Síochána Inspectorate in the Garda Síochána Act, 2015
