I am writing to you on behalf of the 100+ member organisations of Coalition 2030, including representatives from the Development, Social Inclusion, Trade Union and Environment sectors. As you know, Ireland played a leading role in the delivery of the sign-off on the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Sept 2015. As you will also realise, in order for Ireland to fulfil its commitment to deliver on the targets contained in all 17 SDGs by 2030, action needs to begin now, and that means with the 2018 Budget. We believe it’ll be essential that there is a strong Cabinet commitment to ensure that all departmental programmes and associated budgets help us move forward as a country towards reaching the SDGs. It also means an explicit inclusion of the SDGs in Budget 2018. As representatives of a broad swathe of civil society we will be highlighting the upcoming second anniversary of the global sign-up to the UN SDGs and calling for action in Ireland.
