This activity was solely to point out to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed TD,the concerns of the pelagic vessel sector regarding proposed transfer of 14% of the Irish mackerel quota from the pelagic sector, which is confined to pelagic species only, to the polyvalent sector. The proposal is in addition to previous changes to sharing arrangements and agreements and will have very serious consequences for the economic viability of both fishing vessels and shore-based processing facilities in the northwest.
