Specific Details PEIN (Prevention and Early Intervention Network) are spearheading a campaign to make children a priority for the General Election 2016. This campaign is called "Hands Up For Children" campaign. As part of this campaign we have produced a policy with 5 specific campaign asks. We have been lobbying politicians and candidates to include our Asks in their election manifestos and ultimately in a Programme for Government.

Intended results We want our 5 specific asks to become government policy. Our 5 specific Asks are on our website www.handsupforchildren.ie but also outlined below. 1. Universal access to family support programmes. 2. Build on and develop prevention and early intervention practice (€20 million extra in Budget) 3. Increase the budget of Tusla by 10%. (€63,5 million in 2016) 4. Bring investment in early years care and education services up to OECD average. 5. Support systems change towards Prevention and Early Intervetion (€20 million extra in 2016).

What is the directive you gave to the grassroots campaigners? We asked supporters to lobby election candidates with regards to the 5 Campaign Asks and to sign up to the principles of our campaign.

Email All Oireachtas Members We emailed all Oireachtas members with details of our campaign, our 5 campaign Asks document and requesting that they meet with us so that we could answer any specific questions regarding our policies and campaign.

Event / Reception All Oireachtas Members We invited all Oireachtas members to our Campaign Launch in the Alexandra Hotel on April 29th.

Event / Reception All Oireachtas Members We invited all Oireachtas members to a talk in Buswell's Hotel by Professor Marjorie Smith on the importance of Prevention and Early Intervention in young peoples lives.

Lobbying activity

Event / Reception (1)

We hosted a talk by Professor Richard Layte on the importance of Early Intervention in the Oak Room in the Mansion House on June 24th 2015. We invited a representative (spokesperson on Youth and Children Affairs) from all political parties to speak at this event.

Our members hosted local events around the country where they invited local politicians, TD's , Senators and Councillors to a talk on the importance of Prevention and Early Intervention and specifically asked them to support the 5 Campaign asks.

Meeting (2-5)

We arranged for Professor Marjorie Smith and Professor Richard Layte to have one to one briefings on our behalf with politicians and their advisors.
