Specific Details The lands in question were residential zoned lands under the adopted development plan (Oughterard Development plan 2006 – 2012). When the new Draft Galway Development Plan 2022 – 2028 was issued it sought to down zone a portion of the subject lands and include a small element of additional lands as flood risk. On behalf of our client, we engaged with 2 local councillors over the phone and provided a briefing note outlining the rationale for the proposed amendments sought.

Intended results To retain the zoning of the subject lands by amending the zoning proposed in the Draft Galway County Development Plan 2022-2028. Our proposed amendment of the Draft Development Plan involved the removal of a residential zoning objective from one section of the land, which our engineers had identified as a flood risk, and the reinstatement of zoning on a portion of lands, which were proposed in the Draft Development Plan to be de-zoned. The net intended result of our proposed amendments was an overall reduction in zoned lands from the previous development plan, while retaining the zoning of the subject lands.
