Specific Details
Cabinet Sub-Committee on Environment and Climate
Intended results
To ensure that a realistic sectoral emissions ceiling is set for Agriculture.
To highlight that if the Minister for the Environment wants farmers to adopt new technologies - Anaerobic Digestion (AD)and Solar - all the subsequent emissions reductions will go to the energy sector. To advise that farmers can work with this if they get a legally binding 22% target for Agriculture and new funding to develop the Anaerobic Digestion and solar on farms..
To point out that AD has the potential to deliver 400,000 tonnes reduction in emissions per year, in addition to Solar.
To highlight to members of the Cabinet sub-committee that what's important here is we strive to reach the overall target of 51% by 2030 across all sectors working together.
To point out that this proposal has the potential to deliver more sustainable jobs in rural Ireland rather than going with a plan to cost Agriculture €4bn and a loss of 55,000 jobs.
