Irish Penal Reform Trust
Lobbying activity
The following activities occurred for this specific Subject Matter Area.
Submission (1)
IPRT was invited by the Justice Committee to make a submission on the topic of anti-social behaviour, and did so on 21 January 2022. IPRT highlighted some of the causes of anti-social and criminal behaviour, in particular socio-economic deprivation, addiction, mental health and child/family welfare issues. IPRT also flagged the measures that do not work to address anti-social behaviour (such as purely punitive responses or increased sentences) while addressing some of the measures that may assist in addressing such behaviour (such as youth diversion programmes and focus on employment / education / substance misuse interventions).
Virtual Meeting (1)
IPRT was invited to appear before the Justice Committee on 22 February 2022, with Molly Joyce and Sarahjane McCreery (IPRT's Senior Policy and Research Officer) attending the online meeting alongside witnesses from five other organisations.
Email (1)
Arising from comments / discussions during the meeting, IPRT's Legal and Public Affairs Manager emailed Deputy Martin Kenny after the meeting, on 2 March 2022, to provide him with some more detailed figures captured by Oberstown Children Detention School and information around restorative justice.
