Specific Details Establishment of Strategic Workforce Advisory Group

Intended results Representation to Minister for Older People Mary Butler to inform NHI welcome the creation of this critical group. However, NHI must express deep disappointment that neither the Private and Voluntary Nursing Home sector, nor the Homecare sector, have been invited to nominate a representative on the Advisory Group on matters which most directly impact upon them - recruitment of healthcare staff. NHI stated a representative should be nominated from our sector to sit on this advisory group.

The terms of reference of this group state clearly that the group will examine the strategic workforce challenges in both publicly and privately provided front-line carer roles in home support and nursing homes, in order to “make recommendations for consideration by the relevant Minister or Ministers”. In spite of this focus on the Nursing Home and Homecare sectors within the terms of reference, direct membership and participation within the group from these sectors has been omitted.
