Specific Details Presentation of NHI Staffing and Cost Pressures Analyses

Intended results Present to the State the extent and extremity of staffing and cost pressures being experienced by the private and voluntary nursing home sector. The State cannot continue to overlook the extremity of the pressures that present in meeting costs and recruiting and retaining staff. Requirement for engagement with NHI to address issues threatening the sustainability of nursing homes.

NHI are asking the State to recognise the realistic and true cost to provide nursing home care. Equivalent pay for staff providing equivalent care in the nursing home sector must become a reality under Fair Deal and represents a very legitimate and fair ask. Furthermore, it is imperative the scheme recognises the increasing cost pressures for the provision of nursing home care. Our representations are against a backdrop of Covid19 Nursing Homes Expert Panel recommendations and the very considerable rise in costs being incurred due to persistent inflation
