Specific Details Attendance at the JOC Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill

Intended results The concept and definition of Community Media Hubs merits legislative recognition. The social benefits generated by community media should be recognised as a specific form of public service content. A Content Support Scheme should support community media to produce “community information and agency” content. Media literacy can be further strengthened in this Bill through the introduction of an active community dimension in the digital era. The ‘Special Interest media’ concept in Sound Broadcasting should be reintroduced

Members of JOC emailed with information on Community Media To ensure the J.O.C were made aware that Media Literacy was one of the basic cornerstones of Community Radio for the past 15 years.

Phone call (2-5)

Phone Call to Deputy Peter Fitzpatrick to query the topic of Community Radio at the Joint Oireachtas Committee Meeting scheduled for 6th. May 2021. To ensure the J.O.C were made aware that Media Literacy was one of the basic cornerstones of Community Radio for the past 15 years. Seeking Advice re procedures Phone call to Cllr Kevin Meenan requesting that Deputy Imelda Munster query the topic of Community Radio at the Joint Oireachtas Committee Meeting scheduled for 6th. May 2021.
