Virtual meetings with Senator Ivana Bacik and Deputy Jennifer Carroll MacNeill to discuss goals of the All-Party Oireachtas Group on Penal Reform and plans for the first virtual meeting of the Group.
Virtual Meeting (1)
First virtual meeting of the All-Party Oireachtas Group on Penal Reform, with speakers including the Chief Inspector of Prisons, Senator Ivana Bacik, Deputy Carroll MacNeill and Executive Director of IPRT. Key penal reform issues, including the impact of Covid-19 on prisons, were discussed during meeting among TDs/ Senators in attendance.

Follow up letter sent to all attendees at first meeting of the All-Party Oireachtas Group, as well as those who RSVP'd to meeting but did not actually attend. Letter covered the key issues raised during the meeting (ncluding the pending Inspection of Places of Detention Bill, need to repeal the Prison (Amendment) Rules 2020 as soon as possible, concerns re prison complaints system, family visits to prisons and vaccination of prisoners. Letter also enclosed a copy of IPRT's briefing 'Irish Prisons and Covid-19: One Year On' and offered any assistance that we could provide to TD/ Senator.
