The following activities occurred for this specific Subject Matter Area.

Meeting (1)

GPA were one of a number of sports bodies to meet Fine Gael TD Hildegarde Naughton, Chair of the Oireachtas Communications Committee regarding social media use surrounding their games, players and athletes. In attendance to meet the Chair along with GPA representatives Paul Flynn and Jennifer Rogers were Simon Keogh of Rugby Players Ireland and Rachael McGuire of Sport Ireland. The meeting took place In light of ongoing reports of serious harassment and bullying of sports players and coaches on social media to discuss their experiences and concerns. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the forthcoming Government legislation providing for a Digital Safety Commissioner and how it can combat the level of online abuse that has negatively impacted on sports, at all levels.
