Specific Details Acceptance of recent amendments to the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill, including one to introduce mandatory cancer warnings on all alcohol products sold in the Republic of Ireland.

Intended results The VFI has fully supported the Bill from the outset but says this amendment is not acceptable. While recognising there are health risks associated with regular heavy drinking, many studies show that moderate consumption can have certain health benefits. A blunt assertion as demanded by this amendment is neither balanced nor proportionate. We ask that this element of the Bill be deleted by way of amendment.
